Genesis Canada Presents Awards for Travel & Adventure Writing

• 40th Annual Automobile Journalism Awards presented by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

MARKHAM, ON, Oct. 18, 2023 – Genesis Motors Canada is pleased to announce the recipients of its inaugural awards for Travel & Adventure Writing at the 40th Annual Automobile Journalism Awards. Hosted by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), the accolades were announced and presented in-person by Genesis Canada Public Relations Manager Dustin Woods at the Ajax Convention Centre last evening.

Entries were reviewed anonymously by three expert judges who evaluated submissions by AJAC members based on a variety of criteria - including clarity, creativity, style, quality of research, and relevance to its readers.

Journalist Matthew Guy was chosen as runner-up for a piece featured on Wheels.ca titled “Newly Paved Trans Labrador Highway Provides a Mesmerizing Drive but Not for the Faint of Heart.”

One of the judges called Guy’s feature, “A seamless piece of automotive travel writing that takes readers to parts of Canada rarely traveled, not least because of the hardships the writer encounters on this road trip which they eloquently relay in the story.”

The winner of the 2023 Travel & Adventure Writing Award presented by Genesis Canada is Evan Williams for his travel feature published in Gear Junkie named, “Grand Canyon the Better Way: A UTV Adventure to the Rim Less Traveled.”

The judges thought this was the epitome of what automotive-themed travel story should be. They agreed that Evans paints a vivid picture of the Grand Canyon that is captured from an angle not often seen by tourists, inviting the reader to come along for a ride, while weaving in a real-world review of the UTV that is featured in the story.
